  • Thought cluster computing at Compaq--thought was cool. They asked him to look at Linux. Was backburner until he saw what was happening in Indiana. U.S. vs. Brazil. 4:1 ratio frozen for last years. Computers for All in Brazil. 850k Linux machines sold in first year, financed over 24 months with no interest. ProInfo? educational system movement.

  • 1:1 program. NY public schools, 1 million students as reference project. Want to be able to fund 100% using eRate, so that very low income schools can move to 1:1 environment. Go to district with deficits, so have to bring the funding model and something that impacts student achievement.

Teachers are seeing the value and seeing changes in students. Achievement data? Attendance up, disruptions down, teachers gain 5 - 10 minutes per class.
